High voltage SCR controlled power supplies require the following:

• Output voltage is high. Output current is generally Low.
• Voltmeter and ammeter display the output voltage and current under load.
• Potentiometers are used to adjust output voltage and limit output current from minimum to maximum.

The block diagram of a typical High voltage SCR controlled power supply is shown below:High voltage SCR controlled power supplies consist of a SCR controller on the 480 VAC three phase input power lines. The three phase power transformer is used to step up the secondary voltage so that after rectification the desired high voltage DC output is achieved. Each diode in the rectifier circuit consists of multiple diodes in series to increase the overall peak inverse voltage (PIV) of the diodes. The high voltage rectifier section is enclosed inside a fiber glass plenum to offer high voltage protection.
